College & Career Office (CACO) Guidance

The College and Career Office (CACO) staff are here to help students prepare for a college, career training and/or an employment experience. We have a wealth of knowledge and resources to share.

CAS partners with Comprehensive Youth Development to provide individualized post-secondary planning support to students so they can make informed decisions and secure a successful future.

Students are provided with college and career exposure through rep and college visits, take college and career assessments, attend career panels, make connections with professionals in our network, engage in one-on-one counseling and group advising and some participate in internships and part time employment in the office.

Post-secondary Plan

  • Each student at City-As-School (CAS) has a dedicated CACO link that works with them.

  • Creating a post-secondary plan is a requirement for all students who graduate from City-As-School. CACO counselors guide students to carefully consider and document an actionable plan.

college or university Planning Considerations

City-As-School students go on to study at many different two and four-year colleges and pursue degrees in a variety of majors. Many students who complete their associate’s degrees continue their education and obtain a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Students should note:

  • Your grade point average (GPA) will not change from your previous high school, as we do not award number or traditional letter grades.

  • Your attendance and performance in school matters. You can demonstrate your consistency and commitment to your academic success through credit earning. Additionally, if you come to school, actively participate and do your best work, so that teachers and your CACO link will be able to write well-rounded recommendation letters for you.

  • Consider participating in extracurricular activities or volunteer work outside of internships at CAS. Colleges are looking for students who participate in activities, sports, programs related to their intended major, community service, etc...

  • Research the average GPA for admission to the college (Colleges Based on High School GPA. Search Colleges by GPA. (collegesimply.com), as well as the average SAT/ACT score. (Many colleges are still test optional, but if your GPA isn't as strong as you would like, you can submit those scores to boost your application.)
