Be a Part of our City-As Borough Collaboratives!

March 18, 2014

As part of the Izone Essentials Allies Challenge, City-As School has been collaborating with teachers, software developers, and other education professionals to generate and implement innovative ideas that will reshape parental engagement in schools. The Essential Allies Team, consisting of Ryan, Maria, Andrew G., Marcus, and Rachel recently submitted a formal proposal for this challenge, and was selected to receive $5,000 to implement the proposal.

In an effort to facilitate better communication between students, parents, and advisors, the Essential Allies Team will be implementing a series of forums between advisors, parents, and students, based out of school resource sites and public spaces in the boroughs. These monthly forums are designed to engage parents, students, and advisors in meaningful dialogue around issues like substance abuse, the career and college process, conflict management, etc. and also to update parents on what is happening with their child in school. An expert from a community partner organization will moderate a panel of students that will respond to questions and concerns from parents, other students, and teachers. The hope is to foster and sustain strong relationships within our families and community with honest and open communication as its foundation.
