Remembering Richard Risio

June 20, 2014
Richard Risio

Richard Risio

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Richard Risio, a teacher, a colleague, and a dear friend of ours died on Monday June 16 of a sudden cardiac arrest.  We have conveyed our community’s condolences and deepest sympathy to his partner Carlos and to his family.

We understand that this unexpected and devastating news may be difficult to reconcile with fond memories many of you have of Rich. His passion was in helping students grow – whether it was in their writing, their art, or in their sense of self-worth. He was loved by all, and we will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be this Saturday, June 21, at the Greenwich Village Funeral Home at 199 Bleecker St. in Manhattan. The viewing time is between 11am and 1pm. There will be a very short service at 12pm. All are welcome to attend. (For those people working or attending Saturday school, a group of us will be leaving from school to go over at 11:30 to be at the service.)

We have also spoken with the family and have established a joint scholarship fund to encourage and support CAS students in applying to art schools. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to:
